“Awesome stand up” - BBC
Best Stand Up on the North West Comedy Circuit 2006 Nominee
Tune in every Saturday & Sunday between 10 - 2pm to hear Mick`s radio show "The Weekend Shambles" on The North West`s Revolution 92.6.
Manchester based Mick Ferry is renowned as a fine purveyor of lugubrious surrealism and has quickly established himself as one of the most sought after comics on the British and International comedy circuit. One of the finest comperes around, at ease bantering with a crowd but with no shortage of first class dark and sinister material, Mick performs regularly at The Comedy Store in London and Manchester as well as headlining at comedy venues nationwide. Internationally he has recently appeared in Ireland , Dubai , Singapore , and Shanghai where he has showcased his ability to pluck outstanding material from thin air in an apparently effortless manner.
Mick began his assault on the stand-up circuit in 1998 and quickly made it to the finals of Channel 4's esteemed ‘So You Think You're Funny' competition. His stand up career has gone from strength to strength and he is now widely recognised as one of the most talented and promising stand-ups to have emerged from the North. Testament to this fact, he has been invited to perform alongside stand-up luminaries Johnny Vegas, Sean Lock, Peter Kay, Al Murray and Steve Coogan – having the honour of joining each of them as a special guest on live shows.
Back in the early days of his career Mick formed one third of the bizarre comedy trio Dr Strangehair. Performing zany sketches and offbeat humour littered with pop culture references the trio were soon spotted by ‘Mercury Prize Winner' Badly Drawn Boy and invited to accompany him on a sell out nationwide tour. It was a short lived venture; the world of rock-and-roll soon took its toll on the trio and they split soon after to focus on their individual comedy careers.
For Mick there was no looking back. He has gone on to develop a cult following in his native North West and performed his debut one man show ‘Mick Ferry's Won F*&K All!' to a sell out audience and great critical acclaim at the Manchester Comedy Festival in 2004. In the same year, he also appeared at the Edinburgh Festival as part of the highly regarded ‘Big Value Comedy Show'.
A supremely talented and versatile performer, Mick was also a founder member of The Comedy Store's weekly topical team show ‘M.E.N At Work'. In the furiously paced show based on the week's news, Mick continued to hone his talent for off-the-cuff, satirical and topical comedy, generating new and original material every single week and wowing audiences with his spontaneous acerbic outbursts and razor sharp wit.
Recognising his talent as a prolific comedy writer and emerging talent, Mick was one of only a handful of Artistes to be awarded a writers bursary by the BBC in 2004. He then went on to write and perform a pilot for Radio 4; a sketch show entitled 'Turn Left at the Pier' based in the glitzy showbiz world of Blackpool . Also on the airwaves, Mick's quick witted banter can be heard regularly on BBC Radio GMR where he's a regular guest contributor. Other radio credits include BBC7's ‘Brand Spanking New' Comedy Show.
TV credits include a live stand-up performance on Paramount 's ‘The Comedy Store' , BBC 2's ‘Running Late' , Comedy Central/Paramount Comedy's ‘The World Stands up' and Paramount 's ‘Comedy Blue'. Mick recently made his acting debut in ‘Fire Salad' – a play written by Tony Burgess and performed at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester .
Recently Mick joined the North West`s Revolution 92.6 radio station to present his own show “The Weekend Shambles" and to top off a great year for Mick he has been nominated for the Best Stand Up on the North West Comedy Circuit 2006 at the North West Comedy Awards.
Things look like they are only going to get better for Derker's most famous son…
