Rainer Hersch

Rainer Hersch Rainer Hersch is a musician and comedian who performs on every major comedy stage in Britain and abroad. He has appeared eight times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; toured Canada five times.

He has performed in comedy clubs all across Europe and in TV shows around the world.

A trained classical pianist, Rainer began life as an agent to some of the world's great orchestras - his last official job title was Touring Manager of the London Festival Orchestra. However, unknown to his employers, he had also started appearing as a stand-up comedian on the London comedy circuit. He eventually devoted himself full-time to comedy in 1992.

As a straight stand-up, Rainer Hersch's innovative style crosses between verbal and hilarious visual comedy "Most of what Rainer Hersch does doesn't bear explaining. But it will make you laugh" Orlando Sentinel.

This originality put him in demand both as quality act and as an enormously effective MC, able to create a unique atmosphere for both audiences and other performers to enjoy "Rainer Hersch is possibly the best compère I have ever seen": TNT

Whatever his role on stage, Rainer's energy is immediately passed on to his audience and the rapport he generates is boisterous and fun.

Then in 1996 Rainer combined stand-up comedy with his continued fanaticism for classical music to produce "All Classical Music Explained" - a simple and stupid approach to the difficult subjects "How to play instruments without practising"; "Why is organ music so boring?" and "What do conductors actually do?"... The result was an immediate hit with all kinds of audiences. In a 55 date tour across three continents, the show attracted rave reviews

"Rainer Hersch is a rarity amongst musical comedians - he is funny" - The London Daily Telegraph;

"A stroke of comic genius" Canada;"Not since Victor Borge has a musician- comic raised the roof with such continuous laughter" South Africa.

The sequel to All Classical Music Explained: "Masterclass" built on the success and most recently a seven piece orchestra has been added which Rainer conducts, accompanies on the piano and uses to perform madcap comedy routines.

"A guaranteed laugh every four bars" - The Scotsman.

The All Classical Music Explained theme has now been turned into two radio series for the BBC. In the most recent of these "Rainer Hersch's 20th Century Retrospective" Rainer recorded the last ever interview with Yehudi Menuhin.

Amongst numerous other radio credits Rainer Hersch is a frequent and popular guest on the classic Radio 4 programme "Loose Ends" with Ned Sherrin. On television he is familiar to audiences in the UK for his guest appearances on programmes such as "How Do They Do That?" and most recently his five week stint as team captain on the daily television show "The Entertainment Game" for BBC1.

Rainer's forthcoming projects include a solo TV series in the UK; a tour of Australia and Tasmania with theTasmanian Symphony Orchestra and return to New Zealand.

Brain Higgins

Brian Higgins "The peoples favourite comedian" - The Stage

"Daft but very funny" - The Guardian

Brian Higgins one of Scotland's finest comedians moved to London in 1994 for the weather - three years later he is a full time comedian. Higgy, as he is affectionately known, enjoys his stand up and it shows in a very strong set. He is one of the most sought after comperes in the UK .

Brian's principal interests in life include himself, Scottish people, religion and of course drinking- but the difference in Brian's case is that is genuinely funny. Paid no finer a compliment than to be likened to an early Billy Connolly, Higgy delivers his diatribe on life's funny (and not so funny) ups and downs in an energetic style that has won him fans across the UK and even as far afield as Dubai.

A favourite with university crowds, he has also branched out into the big bad world of television and radio and has recently been seen with Al Murray on Time Gentleman Please and heard on the Fred MacAulay Show.

As well as being one of the busiest acts on the circuit he has headlined the best clubs not only in the UK but Dubai , Hong Kong , Singapore and Ireland . With his energetic delivery he never fails to deliver the goods.

Steve Hughes

Steve HughesYearning for a career where men want to be you and women want to have sex with you, Steve Hughes spent his formative years in Australia as heavy metal drummer. After ten years of recording and touring Steve gave up his job as a drummer and decided to start talking to the audience.

Heavy Rock bands Slaughter Lord, Mortal Sin, Nazxul, and Primordial's losses are the comedy world's gain.

Steve is now widely regarded one of the most esteemed and exciting stand up comedians working on the UK and International circuit. With a laconic and deceptively laid back style, Steve's musings on life and the universe are far reaching. A chain smoking, beer swilling, plain talking Australian, Steve's comfortable operating in the realms of such familiar subjects as drugs, sex, and pornos but his real passion is the topical, political and intellectual – delivered in a frequently provocative manner. Operating on many levels Steve's eloquently argued points are always passionate and delivered with blistering conviction.

His eclectic mix of quirky anecdotes and witty one-liners has earned him legions of fans across the U.K., as well as recent performances on BBC2's “ The Live Floor Show,” Paramount's “ The Comedy Store” and Comedy Central's “ The World Stands Up!”. He has appeared all over Australia, won the first ever Green Faces Comedy Competition 1997, appeared on Channel 9's footy show, Won Australian Comedian of the year 1998, hosted MTV in Australia, appeared at almost every international comedy festival in the world and even supported Mr Methane on tour.

Chatting with the casual confidence of a comic at home in front of a crowd Steve Hughes' acute observations on British life are packed with conviction and passion about stuff that really matters to him.

Steve's philosophy - The idea of multiculturalism is meaningless, when there is in reality only one culture: ‘People'

Press

One of the best hours of stand up at the fringe…acutely observed and cutting bone-deep. Steve delves into gutsier territory – racism, terrorism, homophobia – with an honesty and openness rarely seen among comics. His insights are spot-on, his opinions are intelligent and his jokes are top class .” – The Guardian

Mark Thomas and Rob Newman have proven how effective comedy can be as a mouthpiece for such issues. Hughes knocks them into a cocked hat. In summary: Hughes is gold .” – Metro

After an ingenious segment in which he proves with absolutely faultless logic that gay men are straighter than straight men, he chuckles as some bemused looks in the audience and says: “just getting your minds nice and wet for later on – this is going to get wacked.” And wacked it gets. Hughes launches into an absolutely withering demolition of the thinking behind the War on Terror. He's not the first comedian to tackle this subject by any means, but I've never heard it chewed over with such devastating rigour .” – The Scotsman

Invigorating…his bullshit-free take on the world is compelling and pungent ”. – Edinburgh Guide

This is exactly what political comedy should be intelligent, provocative, profound, and topped off with good, solid gags. See him while it's still legal .” – Chortle

You get the feeling Steve Hughes is on the cusp of greatness. The re is also the feeling that, if said greatness was achieved, he would probably tell it to f**k off. You will not see a more hilarious and passionate act at any festival .” – Hairline.org.uk

A laconic, and laid back performer, Hughes' quietly confident persona demonstrates a man at ease with his material. Think Boothby Graffoe…only Australian. Beneath the easy-going exterior, though, there's fine comic work being done, as Hughes tosses out elegant gags by the bucketload…a charming delivery ” – Chortle

Steve Hughes will rock your world ” – Three Weeks
